. Chinese researchers in a new study have identified a new type of coronavirus NeoCov which spread among bats in South Africa and pose danger to humans if it mutates further. The yet-to-be peer-reviewed study recently posted on the preprint repository BioRxiv shows that NeoCov is closely related to the Middle East respiratory syndrome MERS a viral disease first. The new so-called variant being talked about right now has been dubbed NeoCoV and was originally found in a population of bats from South Africa.

To date NeoCoV is only known to spread among these animals.
